The President of Lithuania said Poroshenko than similar NATO and the EU

The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite said that today we need to focus on reforms for the country to achieve NATO standards. About it Grybauskaite said Friday, June 9 in Kharkiv during a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

“The President correctly pointed out that the basic agreement on NATO clearly stated that only democratic countries that respect the rule of law and respect human rights can apply to become a member of NATO,” – said the President of Lithuania.

According to her, the Alliance unites States that profess democratic values, and these criteria are similar to criteria for membership in the European Union.

“We’re not just talking about filing a formal application, we’re talking about implementation of those reforms that are important. For example, in Lithuania after the filing had 10 years of very difficult reforms,” – said Grybauskaite.

We will remind, Poroshenko said he will sign the law on the restoration of Ukraine’s course for NATO membership, as the initiative was agreed with him, but to talk about the Ukrainian application for membership in the Alliance too early.
