Half of Russians confused what holiday marks of the Russian Federation 12 June – survey

The share of Russians who clearly know that 12 June is Russia Day – the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the state sovereignty (independence) has increased over the year, from 44% to 49%. This is evidenced by the data of the survey “Levada-Center”.

Another 32% of respondents believe that this day is celebrated as independence Day of Russia (29% in 2016). According to 3% of the Russians, June 12 marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on state sovereignty of Russia (8% a year ago).

From 8% to 2% per year reduced the proportion of Russians who said that on 12 June the country celebrates the anniversary of the election of the first President of Russia

Do not consider this day a holiday 3% of respondents, and every tenth (11%) did not know or were not sure what the holiday is celebrated in Russia on 12 June.

Responding to a question, 60% of Russians expressed the opinion that this independence went as a whole for the benefit of the Russian Federation (last year 56%). That independence has damaged Russia, said 16% of respondents (21% in 2016). Undecided 24% of survey participants.

These data are from a survey conducted may 19-22 among 1,600 people in 137 localities of the 48 regions of the Russian Federation.

On June 12, Russia will celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on state sovereignty of Russia. To commemorate this event in 1992, the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation has assigned the date of the Declaration the status of a public holiday. Its current name, Russia Day received in 2002 in connection with the adoption of the revised Labour code.
