Klimkin told how Ukraine will help the summit of “Eastern partnership”

The summit of “Eastern partnership” which will be held in November 2017 in Estonia has to contribute to the strengthening of the Association of Ukraine with the European Union. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin told reporters in Brussels after the informal meeting with the foreign Ministers of the EU countries.

“You know that the November summit of “Eastern partnership”, and we must prepare so that it is clear that those countries that have an Association Agreement and perform his, those countries that have a visa-free regime need to go further in terms of strengthening our Association. That was the logic of today’s talk,” – said Klimkin.

He said that he had met with several European commissioners, including EU High representative for the common foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy Johannes Hahn and EU Commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmstrom.

In particular, Malmstrom Klimkin discussed ways how to make more effective the work of the free trade area of Ukraine with the European Union.

The Minister also added that on Monday, may 15, planned several meetings, including with Vice-President of the European Commission on Energy Union Maros Sefcovic. “Energy cooperation is very important,” – said the head of the foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

As reported, on may 12 Klimkin stressed that Ukraine deserves a strengthened variant of the Association with the European Union.

He expressed the hope that in the coming days will be the final decision on ratification of the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU from the Netherlands.

Monday, may 15, the Ukrainian foreign Minister also explained in the comment to journalists why Ukraine to become an EU member.

Klimkin also said that the foreign Ministers of countries-EU members at an informal luncheon “Friends of Ukraine in the EU + Ukraine” agreed on the continuation of sanctions against Russia.
