On the upcoming weekend, Ukrainians will celebrate the main holiday of all Christians — Easter. Traditionally, in these days no family is complete without a festive table. Experts explained how much this year will cost refreshments, and also how to change the cost of the food basket of a Ukrainian, writes UBR.
According to the expert of social Affairs Andriy Pavlovsky, in the last year the cost of the minimum food basket for Easter increased by almost a third.
In the minimum list of products which usually buy the Ukrainian experts included: wheat and rye bread, rice, flour, cereals, pasta, beef, pork, poultry, sausages, milk, eggs, cheese, sour cream, sugar, vegetable oil, potatoes, cabbage, beets and carrots.
According to the Director of the Economic discussion club Oleg Penzin, most in this set you will have to pay the people of Kiev is about UAH 860. A bit cheaper grocery basket cost in the Dnieper — 825 UAH. And less for food paid by the residents of Ternopil — a little less than 740 UAH.
For example, self-baked holiday 700-gram cake will cost 35 UAH, which is almost 15% higher than last year. When counting, the experts focused on the classic recipe that includes flour, eggs, sugar, butter, raisins, yeast, lemon, and jewelry.
And almost all of these ingredients are expensive. For example, sugar prices, experts predict, will only grow. The basic price increase will happen around July, when the season will start domestic preparations.
But some foods for the holiday can be even cheaper. So experts suggest to buy in stores for future use.
I rewrite the price tags
As noted by the CEO of the Ukrainian Association of trade networks suppliers Oleksiy Doroshenko, for the last 2.5 months of the basic products of the food basket of Ukrainians have risen in price, and only in recent days, manufacturers have started to reduce prices. Mostly the expert connects it with the overabundance of certain types of products and falling demand for our product abroad.
But while cheaper opt, the effect of “sales” the consumer will only be felt from the mid-to late April. On the other hand, lowering the cost of products in opt-can-eat holiday surcharges retail.
“Cheaper now, for example, eggs, dairy products and meat. All about purchasing power. For example, the average Ukrainian just can afford to buy eggs for more than 30 UAH/dozen, or beef for 100 UAH/kg”, — Doroshenko said.
Difficult situation with pork, which cost in the near future can be lowered, depending on the region 20 – 25 UAH/kg. cheapening the product experts associated with the revelry of African swine fever in Ukraine. Farmers, fearing the risk of infection or worse, already dealing with sick animals, you can try to quickly get rid of the problem of meat.
Therefore, experts expect the shaft is questionable, but cheap pork on the market. “Unfortunately, we have a problem of identification of animals; therefore it is impossible to understand, where they brought products. In the end, there is a risk of buying infected pork,” — said Doroshenko.
However, many Ukrainians about buying meat have to only dream of. Since, as noted Pendzin, less than the consumer’s income, the more often it replaces not only meat, but many vegetable products cheaper, for example, potatoes and bread.
According to him, in the current situation, bread is the most consumed product among Ukrainians. And the rapid increase in the price of bread since the beginning of 2017, according to experts, is a very worrying trend.
According to experts, the average Ukrainian family spends on food 57% of its budget, while Belarusians — 38%, Russians — about 42%, and Europeans — about 20%.
