The Congress was unable to elect two members of the High Council of justice

The delegates of the 14th extraordinary Congress of judges of Ukraine failed to elect two members of the High Council of justice (SCJ) and suspended their work.

As informs on Wednesday the press center of the Judiciary, this decision was taken by the delegates pursuant to the requirements of the law of Ukraine “On High Council of justice”.

“This means that to happen the new announcement of competition for filling vacant posts of members of the VSP from among the judges elected by the Congress,” – said in the message.

It is noted that the date of the next phase of the 14th extraordinary Congress of judges of Ukraine will be announced later.

The Congress of judges of Ukraine convened by the Council of judges of Ukraine pursuant to the law of Ukraine “On High Council of justice”, which came into effect on 5 January 2017. According to this law, the Congress of judges of Ukraine should Dospat 6 members of the High Council of justice.

As reported, on March 14, 2017 in Kiev started the 14th extraordinary Congress of judges, which shall elect members of the High Council of justice (SCJ) and judges of the constitutional court of Ukraine..

In the evening on the same day the Congress elected two members of the High Council of justice, the judge of appellate court of Kiev Nikolay A. Hudik and judge of the Kiev appellate economic court Viktor Shapran.

15 Mar 14-th Congress of judges chose two more members VSP is the judge of appellate court of Odessa region Igor Artemenko and judge of the court of appeal of Volyn region Andrey Ovsienko.
