EU ambassadors approved the agreement on bezveze for Ukraine

Ambassadors of the European Union at the meeting of the Committee of permanent representatives of member countries of the EU approved the text of the legislative proposal to grant Ukraine visa-free regime, which was agreed on the results of the inter-institutional negotiations.

This was announced by the EU Council following the meeting.

“The Committee confirmed the agreement on visa liberalization for Ukraine reached in the framework of TRIALOG,” said the EU Council.

Now it is expected that an appropriate letter about the decision will be forwarded to the relevant Committee of the European Parliament on issues of freedom, justice and internal Affairs, then will be determined by the date when it will be voted on.

The Rapporteur, MP Maria Gabriel, after the completion of inter-institutional negotiations, which took place on 28 February in Brussels, announced that it intends to put the issue to a vote in the second week of March. After that, the document will be voted in the plenary session.

During the discussion, both at the Committee level and at the level of plenary session, members have the opportunity to amend the text of the amendment, therefore, after the vote in the EP, the document will return to the Committee of permanent representatives for approval. After the Committee of permanent representatives agrees with what was passed by the Parliament, should be the decision of the EU Council and the subsequent signing of the document and its publication in the Official journal of the EU. The document will come into force 20 days from the date of promulgation.

Earlier, the European Parliament announced the indicative date for consideration of a question concerning a visa-free regime for Ukraine.

In particular, the card States that the European Parliament intends to consider with respect to bezveza for Ukraine on April 5.
