The Senate of the Netherlands in April to ratify the Association Agreement EU-Ukraine – media

The Senate of the Netherlands in April will support the ratification of the Agreement on Association of Ukraine with the European Union. This was reported by a source in diplomatic circles, UNIAN reports.

According to the source, the lower chamber of the Dutch Parliament supported the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU should now take a vote in the Senate (the Upper house of Parliament), where, according to sources, there are a sufficient number of votes to adopt a positive for Ukraine’s decision on Association Agreement.

In addition, the interviewee noted the efforts of the Ukrainian diplomacy in making the appropriate decision, despite the results of the Advisory referendum.

“We expect that in April the may and the Senate (Upper house of Parliament) ratified the Agreement, and then signs the instrument of ratification by the king and they are passed in Brussels,” – said the source.

As reported, on 23 February, the lower house of the Dutch Parliament supported the law introduced by the government of the country to ratify the Association Agreement EU-Ukraine.

The document must be ratified by the upper house (Senate). It is expected that the Senate will consider the ratification of the Association Agreement, and after the 15 March parliamentary elections.

To date, the Netherlands is the only country of the EU 28 member countries, which still have not ratified the document.

According to the results of a referendum held in April 2016 and which came of 32.28 % of voters, 60% voted against the agreement with Ukraine. The referendum is Advisory in nature.
