Ukraine was the center of the talks with Mogherini the new administration trump – EU

The Ukrainian question was Central during the negotiations, the high representative of the European Union for the common foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini with representatives of the new administration of U.S. President Donald trump.

On Tuesday in Strasbourg at the plenary session of the European Parliament, in which was discussed the deteriorating situation in the East of Ukraine, said the representative of the EU Council Ian Borg (Borg Ian).

He recalled that Mogherini visited Washington last week, where they met with their American counterparts. “She used the opportunity to once again announce a common position of the EU, including on sanctions. We do not see sanctions as a goal but as a tool. We continue to say again and again that when the Minsk agreements are fulfilled, sanctions will be lifted. It also means that how long the agreement are not met, sanctions will remain in place,” he recalled the EU’s position.

According to Borg, European and American, the sides discussed issues on supporting the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The representative of the Council of the EU noted that the EU is ready for that. So, Brussels has increased its financial and technical support to the Special monitoring mission of the OSCE. “We are preparing a comprehensive programme for government-controlled territory near the contact line. We want to support economic development, social inclusion and job creation. This will be followed by a program of financial assistance for the period of 2018-2020 years to prepare the ground for larger reconstruction efforts, when conditions permit,” said he.

In addition, Borg has said that Russia is directly responsible for the resolution of the conflict in the Donbas.
