Of the sale of Finnish real estate to foreigners may be cancelled

According to the Deputy of the Parliament of Finland Suna Kymalainen, the Ministry of defence of Finland intends to examine the issue of sale of real estate in close proximity to strategically important sites for citizens of countries outside the EU and EEC.

MP from the Social democratic party of Finland Kymalainen Suna (Suna Kymäläinen) reports that some of the concluded deals for the sale of Finnish real estate to foreigners may be cancelled.

The reason for this step is the location of the property close to strategic objects.

“It became clear that in the future may be cancelled some transactions, because the properties are located in strategically important areas,” says Suna Kymalainen.

According to Kymalainen, at the moment the Ministry of defence is considering transactions for the purchase of real estate adjacent to the strategically important objects.

According to the Ministry of defence, it will examine particular cases of transactions for the purchase of real estate, and will develop changes in the legislation of the country.

However, in Finland it is not so easy to accurately describe the concept of “areas in close proximity to strategically important sites”.

“The definition of strategically important sites in Finland — not the easiest task. We have telemachy in the middle of densely populated areas. How to consider the water ways and crossing the roads? We have properties in the border area. Not to mention the cottages in the vicinity of airports”, − says Kymalainen.

According to her, the concept of “strategically important object” would have to be expanded.

The Ministry of defence of Finland promised to provide a report on the transactions for the sale of property in March, says Kymalainen.

“After that the Ministry of justice will prepare the necessary bills.”

She Kymalainen made a parallel initiative that includes the introduction of a special resolution for transactions for the sale of property to citizens of countries outside the EU and EEC.
