Trump stands on the side of Russia, commenting on the situation in Ukraine

President trump expressed doubt about Russian support for the separatists involved in the recent escalation of the conflict in the East of Ukraine, having risen, thus, on the side of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long denied involvement of Moscow in the conflict, despite evidence to the contrary.

 

Mr. trump said that he was not outraged by the resumption of the deadly fighting in Ukraine, which occurred the day after his telephone conversation with Mr Putin, commenting on the recent clashes “we don’t know exactly what’s going on. “It’s the Pro-Russian forces” — the so-called Mr. trump Ukrainian separatists in the interview, broadcast on Monday 6 February in the program O’reilly Factor on the Fox News channel. “We don’t know whether they under control? Or are they out of control? This also happens. We need to deal with this, that would surprise me, but we will understand.”

 

Comments by Mr. trump were the last evidence of his desire to establish more cordial relations with Russia could affect its assessment of the conflict in Ukraine, where its army (trained and armed in part by the U.S. army) clashed with the separatists supported by Russia. Moscow denies involvement in the conflict, which has lasted for three years, despite evidence showing that the supply of arms and reinforcements with her in support of separatist forces in Eastern Ukraine.

The desire of the President to establish more friendly relations with Mr Putin alarmed Ukrainian officials fear that will disappear the pressure from the United States, which gave the former President Barack Obama on Russia, demanding to withdraw its armed forces from East Ukraine.

 

Telephone conversation between Mr. trump with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Saturday 4 February triggered further questions regarding its assessment of the conflict and the commitment of its administration on the retention of anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the annexation of Crimea.

 

In an official statement about the telephone conversation Mr. trump said he wants to cooperate with Kiev and Moscow to resolve the conflict. However, in the statement “aid in restoring peace on the border,” while the violence is happening inside the country, in the Eastern part of Ukraine.
