OSCE urged to stop fighting in Avdeevka and withdraw heavy weapons

The head of the Special monitoring mission of OSCE in Ukraine Ertugrul Apakan called for an end to clashes in the town and withdraw heavy weapons. This Apakan said at a meeting of the UN Security Council in new York, the TV channel “112 Ukraine”.

“A ceasefire is a basic requirement. We call for an immediate end to the clashes. The withdrawal of heavy weapons is another prerequisite. It is also important to continue work in the areas of breeding,” – said Apakan.

According to him, it is important to ensure that special monitoring of the OSCE mission safe access to the affected areas.

“The parties must try and prioritize the protection of civilians and infrastructure repairs. We will continue to monitor the humanitarian situation which causes deep concern,” – said Apakan.

The situation remains tense. 31 January in the town declared a state of emergency in connection with the aggravation of the situation due to the activation of the militants and the threat of a humanitarian catastrophe.
