The Cabinet will refuse to raise the retirement age in Ukraine – Reva

Raising the retirement age in Ukraine as one of the ways to reduce the deficit of the Pension Fund is a political decision that the government currently will not support. This was stated by Minister of social policy of Ukraine Andriy Reva.

According to him, the retirement age is a subject of discussion between Ukraine and the key creditor of Ukraine International monetary Fund (IMF).

“But I think it (raising the age – Ed.) – more of a political demand,” the Minister said.

He also stressed that to reduce the budget deficit of the Pension Fund in two ways – to reduce the number of pensioners by raising the retirement age or increase the number of people paying contributions to the Pension Fund.

The offer of the government of Ukraine, the Minister stressed, is to expand the number of contributors by shadows and salaries.

We will remind, earlier Vice-Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko said that the issue of raising the retirement age off the negotiations with the IMF.

Reva previously noted that the IMF has offered Ukraine to raise the retirement age. According to experts of the Foundation thus it is possible to solve the problem of deficit of the Pension Fund (PF). However, the Ministry of social policy with this approach do not agree.
