NATO has slowed the negotiations with Ukraine on the use of the system PRO – media

NATO has postponed plans to meet with Ukrainian officials, where they were to discuss the issue of the use of a missile defense system in Romania due to the possible reaction of Moscow to take this step. About it writes The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the Alliance is currently in the “awkward position”. On the one hand, NATO strengthens military presence on the borders with Russia, on the other — the U.S. President Donald trump promised to build good relations with Moscow.

The cancellation of negotiations with the Ukrainian side, according to sources, means that NATO does not want to undermine relations with Russia.

“There is a certain political caution in the involvement of Ukraine in the negotiations on missile defense, since it can provoke a sharp reaction from the Russian side,” — said an unnamed diplomat of the Alliance.

The missile defense system that NATO wants to deploy in Romania, is, according to the newspaper, to defend against possible missiles from Iran who has recently conducted missile tests. In this case, the debris of rockets may fall on the territory of Ukraine is a question that the Alliance plans to discuss with Kiev.

Earlier, the White house issued an official warning to Iran because of missile tests.
