UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres, who took office on 1 January 2017, called on all employees to the reform of the United Nations. With this statement he addressed the staff of the Secretariat in its first day, the TV channel “112 Ukraine” with reference to the UN news Center.
“We should be able to respond to the hopes and aspirations of people around the world. This is not an easy task and let’s face it – we’re not quite ready to cope with it. Therefore, we need to make substantial changes in their work, to undertake reforms and improve results,” – said the UN Secretary General at a meeting with members of the Secretariat.
He stressed that on the background of global trends such as population growth, climate change, it is clear that to address these global challenges at the national level is simply impossible. “The time has come when we have to face for solving global problems need global efforts and the UN is the cornerstone of such a multilateral approach,” added antónio Guterres and called for dialogue with all member countries of the UN.
“We can achieve our goals only by working together in a team. We must earn the right to defend the high ideals enshrined in the UN Charter, which are the values of all humanity,” said UN Secretary-General.
As stated by the new head of the Organization, the UN has every right to be proud of their achievements – because she managed to save the lives and alleviate the suffering of many people. While antónio Guterres also called upon to admit their shortcomings and failures.
