Six young men, who for six and a half years have been difficult training in Russia to work at NPP “Akkuyu” talked to “Hurriyet”. In their words, “the training was very detailed, serious and rigorous”, the “right to error was not”, “was the lesson of Chernobyl”, “to fail even one subject would mean the end for us,” “look at the street and it’s like living in some Russian novel”, “we are never allowed to forget, needed to know everything.”
Young people who received education in Russia to work at NPP “Akkuyu” — the first nuclear power plant design in Turkey, after a daunting process of learning gradually began to work at the construction site of the station. The “Hurriet” newspaper (Hürriyet) interviewed six young people who took up work after six and a half years of training in Russia since 2011, and heard from them personally about their experiences.
Most young people we interviewed, the emphasis was on discipline and the seriousness of the education system. For a one-year preparatory course in Russian language followed by intensive training of the specialty. “One year training in Russian language, three years of General engineering and two-and-a-half years of specialized items — say the interlocutors of the newspaper. — In Obninsk, as students, we have realized the responsibility that rests on us. All of our teachers were scientists whose theories, the conceptual apparatus used throughout the world. We were taught never to make mistakes. Regularly pay attention to the mistakes that were made previously. The examination system was quite complex. No one thing you can’t mess. The one who fails is excluded from the educational process. In exams you can only use a ballpoint pen. During the exam, teachers ask questions, how to interview”.
Technical language will be useful
Have Oracle Seda (Seda Yürekli): “I went to University high technology Gebze. Looking for a training program online and found this program. Applied, I was accepted. Training began in 2011. Between the Russian education system and in our system there are many differences. Especially useful for us was to learn at a good level Russian technical language. Now I started to work at the station.”
The power problem decided Turkish company
Atahan Kisacik (Atahan Kisecik): “I studied chemical engineering at middle East technical University and lived in the Dorm. In 2012 he joined the program. We had a difficult examination process. Initially it was difficult to get used to Russia. Because of the different traditions we also had some difficulties. The problem was solved thanks to the dining room, a Turkish construction company. The training was very detailed, serious and strict. The right to a mistake was not. Studied students from other countries such as Vietnam, Bolivia, Ghana, Bulgaria. We trained at nuclear power plants. There were also lessons about Chernobyl. We learned from the best in the business. The most important principle that we have learned: to take personal responsibility and not to make mistakes. For everything there is the rules.”
We were a little nervous
Ulku savash (Savaş Ülkü): “I studied nuclear engineering Department at Hacettepe University. One day we in the audience came and told me about this program. I am also very interested. In 2011, at the beginning of training, it was very difficult, but we felt the support of the state behind. Even look at the street and it’s like living in some Russian novel. Most of us are kept in suspense the absence of such a current we have options as an additional right to retake at the end of the training period. Academic staff were very thorough, we are regularly examined. Now I’m going to do a constant analysis of risks of accidents and leaks on the station. At the time of the occurrence of any problems the system in stations of this type are more does not allow human intervention”.
Most of the exams were in the form of an interview
Umur yılmaz (Yılmaz Umur): “I studied at the Department of electrical engineering and electronics Karadeniz technical University. Heard on TV, as the Minister of energy says about this program. Immediately applied. In 2011 he joined the program. Teachers, deans and rectors treated us very friendly. The learning system was quite strict. To fail even one subject would mean the end for us. The majority of exams were held in the form of an interview. We are trained in a specialty within a complex, mutually reinforcing system. Now we are working on the site. And even more feel the responsibility which was entrusted to his student years”.
Pencil cannot be used
Barrine RAM Emel (Emel Berrin Baran): “I studied at the mathematical Department of the University of Economics and technology under the Union of chambers and commodity exchanges of Turkey. The University sent students an email about this program, but I haven’t seen her, and after a while one of my friends reminded me about the program. I loved his University, but, despite this, decided to participate. Now I feel proud, but for us it wasn’t easy. Especially exams. Pencil cannot be used. We had ball point pen, and the exams were held individually, as interviews. When you’re writing ready to respond, the teacher may ask additional questions on other topics. You had to know everything. In addition, the study of Russian culture during his stay in Russia, too, has given us so very much.”
All teachers — scientists
Orcun Choban (Orçun Coban): “while studying at the nuclear engineering Department at Hacettepe University I teachers participated in the program in 2013. When we left, we told about our duties. This is a very important project. Nuclear power is a science, and we taught the scientists who wrote books and developed theories in this area. This is a very big success for us. We had practice at various nuclear power plants in Russia. During the educational process we were constantly examined. Nothing was allowed to forget. No room for error”.
Training continues
In 2018, 35 Turkish students graduated from a program of undergraduate and graduate programs at national research nuclear University MEPhI (was sent in 2011).
In 2019 53 Turkish student graduated from a program of undergraduate and graduate programs at national research nuclear University MEPhI (was sent in 2012).
In 2020, 55 Turkish students graduated from a program of undergraduate and graduate programs at national research nuclear University MEPhI (was sent in 2013).
In 2021 and 2022, it is expected that the training of undergraduate and graduate programs at national research nuclear University MEPhI will complete a total of 102 students from Turkey (was sent to 2014 and 2015).
At the same time, 22 citizens of Turkey continue to learn in the master’s program in Saint-Petersburg.
At the beginning of the school year in Russia for training in the magistracy is planned to send another 25 students.
