In Romania the President has supported mass protests against the government

About 15 thousand people on Sunday took to anti-government protest on the streets of the Romanian capital of Bucharest, reports euronews.

The demonstrators are outraged by the intention of the new government to adopt amendments to the criminal code. The authorities explain their intention to decongest overcrowded prisons. The opposition believes that the amendments will help to avoid responsibility of corrupt officials.

Among the protesters was the current President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.

“This is totally unacceptable. This means that hundreds of corrupt politicians will continue to commit crimes, so the Romanians have a reason to be angry,” he said.

At the same time, the leader of the ruling Social democratic party and the speaker of the chamber of deputies Liviu Dragnev said that the President of Romania, headed “unauthorized demonstration against the government and constitutional order.”

Recall that in December last year in Romania held parliamentary elections, a majority of the votes which got the Social democratic party of Romania.
