European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that he would like “to be in the same boat with the Brits”, but, in his opinion, the British exit from the EU does not mean the end of the Union.
He said this to journalists in Brussels after talks with the leaders of the countries-members of EU on Brexit.
“I don’t like Brexit, because I’d like to be in the same boat with the British. But Brexit is not the end of the EU, it’s not the end of our development, it’s not the end of our continental ambitions,” said Juncker.
“Our main goal now is to keep the unity of the 27 member countries of the EU (after the EU),” added the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
Previously Tusk has called for political unity of 27 member countries of the EU in future negotiations on Brexit. Prime Minister Theresa may at the EU summit said that London and the EU are ready to move on to negotiations on Brexit. She confirmed that the UK will apply article 50 of the EU Treaty before the end of this month.
As reported, the UK authorities may waive the payment of 60 billion euros to the European Union after leaving the community.
