Zelensky and Smigel congratulated Ukrainians on the Day of the baptism of Rus

The leadership of the country considers baptism a turning point in our history

President Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal congratulated Ukrainians on the Day of the baptism of Rus, which took place 1032 years ago.

Zelensky in his congratulatory message, the text of which is published by the Office of the President, recalled that the adoption of Christianity brought Ukrainians to the big family of European Nations.

“1,032 years ago Prince Vladimir the Great laid the Foundation of the unity of our country, the further development and prosperity. It is the adoption of Christian values and ideals of good, justice and peace – has become an important pointer to the way of the Ukrainian people for independence. And it is these values temper our people in the struggle for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The adoption of Christianity brought Ukrainians to the big family of European Nations, laying a deep tradition of political and legal culture. Thanks to the impulse of unity which more than a thousand years ago gave us Prince Volodymyr the Great, we will build a modern, prosperous, European Ukraine. Great God, the one, save us Ukraine. On the Day of baptism of Kyivan Rus – Ukraine” – said in greeting.

In turn, the Prime Minister Smigel also believes that the baptism of Kyivan Rus – Ukraine became a turning point for our history.

“Equal to the apostles Prince Vladimir the Great of Kiev has brought on the earth Christianity, which became the basis of our spiritual and cultural traditions. This momentous event set a vector of development of our people for millennia to come. I wish that spiritual power never faded and filled us all with abiding faith in peace and invincible Ukraine”, – he wrote in Facebook.

As reported “Today” in Ukraine abolished the procession on the Day of the baptism of Russia because of the pandemic coronavirus. The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU) and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) has decided to celebrate the occasion according to the rules of quarantine.
