Xinhua (China): the Chinese foreign Ministry informed the US about the closure of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu

On the morning of 24 July the Chinese foreign Ministry informed the U.S. Embassy in China about the decision to revoke the license for the establishment and conduct of activities of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu, and the Consulate put forward specific requirements on the cessation of all activities and events, reports “Xinhua”.

21 Jul America unilaterally “provoked the conflict”, suddenly requiring the Chinese side to close the Consulate General of PRC in Houston. This requirement is a serious violation of international law, basic norms of international relations as well as consular agreements between China and America, it has caused serious damage to relations between the two countries. Measures of China, by contrast, are legitimate and necessary response to unreasonable acts of the States. They comply with international law, principles of international relations and diplomatic practice.

The responsibility for the current situation in Sino-American relations lies solely in the United States, emphasizes the publication.
