Bloomberg (USA): Russia to rescue a nuclear Treaty with the United States looks without optimism

“Of course, knowing the habits of the current negotiators, I’m not too optimistic about the start Treaty,” said said the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at the conference on Friday.

After the first round of negotiations on nuclear weapons, held last month in Vienna, U.S. and Russia plan to hold a second round in Geneva on 17-18 July.

The term of the contract, limiting the size of nuclear arsenals, Washington and Moscow, which expired in February, and if the parties agree to prolong it or conclude new, it is fraught with new nuclear risks. The administration of the trump insists that the negotiations connected China, however, Moscow and Beijing are this condition is rejected.

Last month chief us negotiator Marshall Billingsley (Marshall Billingslea) called the talks in Vienna “very strong and very productive” and reiterated the wish that in future rounds took part and Chinese officials.

Russian Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov made much more cautious, stating that the US was “unrealistic” to expect the negotiations to join China, and that Moscow does not want to “influence Beijing,” as it pleases the Americans.

According to Lavrov, Russia at the upcoming summit of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council will raise the question of whether to eliminate the possibility of nuclear war. The United States for two years refused to support the principle that such a conflict in principle cannot be won, and this is a step backwards compared to the joint statement of the Soviet era from 1985, he said.

According to Lavrov, the US wants the support of France and Britain to limit the summit’s agenda of disarmament and non-proliferation, and China considers it as an attempt of pressure to force to join the negotiations on nuclear arsenals.
