Al Ahram (Egypt): trump, Wang and restructuring

In the early 1990-ies of the last century began restructuring. She began like a thunderbolt from a clear sky — that was not expecting anyone.

The younger generation hardly knows the word. It is of Russian origin and means restructuring and transformation. The restructuring called the program of economic reforms started by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Our brothers in the Persian Gulf and Colonel Muammar Gaddafi called him Michael “Gorbachevism” (meant “we will soon see”). It is important that the restructuring of the assumed economic transformation in the decrepit Soviet Union, which were accompanied by political restructuring under the slogan of glasnost, meaning transparency. All this, of course, did not happen.

The result was the collapse of the Soviet Union, followed by the collapse of the Eastern or Communist bloc, as it was then called, and the fall of dictatorial regimes that ruled in Eastern Europe.

As a result, it was at that moment and ended the cold war that raged between the former Soviet Union and the United States of America for many decades.

Currently, however, on the horizon there are signs of a new cold war, now between the United States and people’s Republic of China. This war coincided with the beginning of the epidemic of the coronavirus and its terrible economic consequences for Americans, Europeans and the world.

As noted on Sunday, Wang Yi, Minister of foreign Affairs of China, his country and the United States is on the brink of a new cold war. The statement came amid U.S. accusations against China, allegedly responsible for the pandemic outbreak of coronavirus.

This added tension in relations between the Chinese and the Americans, two years experiencing a difficult time due to a trade war, Beijing declared the property of trump, and the introduction of high customs duties on goods and products arriving from China to the United States of America. Thus the American authorities tried to change the trade balance between Washington and Beijing, which is explicitly in favour of China.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi refuted statements of the USA about their country’s responsibility for the outbreak of the epidemic, and, according to him, they can cause a new cold war.

Wang stressed the openness of China in relation to international efforts to determine the source of origin, coronavirus. As the Minister said, a verbal debate with Washington about the pandemic, the steps of Beijing’s increasing control over Hong Kong and the fact that Washington has caught the “political virus”, is forcing us officials to constantly attack on Beijing.

At a press conference, he said: “Some political forces of the USA take hostage of Sino-us relations, trying to push these relations to the brink of the so-called new cold war.”

However, because of the coronavirus and its distribution in the United States long-standing U.S.-China disputes on trade and human rights — has gained a new dimension. So, the American government has become the main focus of the pandemic in the world.

Although the Minister of foreign Affairs of China did not elaborate on what the forces in question, it’s clear that he was referring to U.S. President Donald trump, who publishes on Twitter, all known statements, such as calling coronavirus “Chinese virus” or criticizing Chinese policy toward the epidemic, which to date has claimed the lives of more than 340 thousand people around the world. Of these, about 100 thousand deaths occur in United States.

One of the criticisms of three of Beijing was that China for some time concealed the fact of the beginning of the epidemic in the country since the end of last year and took the wrong action in the fight against the virus.

As for conclusions, they are as follows. First, a new cold war really started, although so far there is no effective treatment of coronavirus, and there is no reliable vaccine.

We, like the whole world is waiting for (but it’s been more than 30 years after Gorbachev’s perestroika and the first of a long cold war between the United States of America and subsequently disintegrated Soviet Union) a new wave of restructuring, but this time in China or in the United States of America, depending on where she will begin earlier.

And here I return to the statement of Mikhail Gorbachev on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the proclamation of perestroika. Then he said: “Countries trying to dominate the world unilaterally, such as the United States of America, in need of a new restructuring. It will change the situation and limit of such attempts”.

He also noted: “the Policy of the United States is determined by the fact that Americans hold the military-industrial complex, which largely determines everything. It affects the economy, politics, culture, art — everything.”

All the best to you.
