Ukraine is the fastest in Europe reforming the gas sector – the participants of the European energy forum

The European Union and the energy community Secretariat (ECS) has publicly spoken in favour of transit of blue fuel through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The corresponding statement was voiced by the authorised representatives of the EU and the SES during the XXII gas forum, which took place in Ljubljana (Slovenia), the press service of Ministry of Ukraine.

As reported, during the forum one of the key was the evaluation of natural gas demand in Europe, which, in the opinion of the forum, in the next 8 years will only grow.

The forum discussed the fact that the gas market in Europe is the most interesting for gas producers. “According to expert estimates, in the 2020-2025 year, the United States will be able to put through the system of the LNG terminals of about 150 billion cubic meters of blue fuel”, – stated in the message.

“The individual projects of cross-border gas transport (e.g. the projects “North stream”) create a monopoly formation, which requires tight regulation, as they reduce competition and create a market of monsters”, – noted in the Ministry.
 
The forum also announced the conditions under which Ukraine would be to create a full-fledged gas hub:

  • de-monopolization of the gas market in Ukraine;
  • the launch of a new operator of the gas transportation system (GTS) of Ukraine;
  • the growth of production of blue fuel;
  • moved the point of reception of the Russian gas from the Western to Eastern border.
  • extension nanotransporter corridor “North-South”;
  • the involvement of international operators to manage the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

As the energy Ministry, during the forum, European speakers admitted that “Ukraine, in spite of everything, faster than in Europe reforming the gas sector”.

Recall that the transit of gas through Ukraine after 2020 is a priority for the EU, said the Vice-President of the European Commission on Energy Union Maros Sefcovic.

As you know, the contract with Russia for the transit of gas via Ukraine expires at the end of 2019, and Russia has called the conditions under which it will save the transit of gas through Ukraine.

To the implementation of the Russian project Nord Stream – 2 cost nearly 10 billion euros, “Gazprom” and its partners intend to start in April 2018. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by the end of 2019.

Ukraine opposes this construction, calling it politically motivated. Instead, Kyiv has proposed that the EU create a consortium with the involvement of European companies for more efficient management of the existing transportation route through Ukraine. His disagreement with the Nord Stream project – 2 also stated a number of EU countries, particularly Poland and Lithuania.
