Agramunt resists: Aryev said the PACE President holds the chair

The President of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Pedro Agramunt filed in the Arbitration Committee of the Council of Europe on the illegality of the PACE resolution, which started the procedure for his removal from office. This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, MP Volodymyr Aryev on his page on Facebook.

“Pedro Agramunt filed in the Arbitration Committee of the Council of Europe on the illegality of the PACE resolution, which opened the way to removing him from the post of PACE President,” wrote Ryan.

The MP said that the Arbitration Committee is not empowered to do an audit of the PACE resolutions.

“Obviously, the goal was different – further trouble in the Council of Europe, which is favorable to Russia now,” said the Ariev.

He also recalled that Russia had previously refused to pay dues to the organization, “once again proved that he is not going to perform not only value, but also the technical obligations.” According to him, this fact angered many in the Council of Europe.

As reported, on 28 June, the representatives of the group of the European people’s party took the decision to expel from its membership of the PACE President Agramunt.

Recall that in March Agramunt visited Syria with a delegation of Russian deputies. After that, the PACE demanded his resignation.

However Agramunt refused to resign, and the procedures of recall in PACE no.

April 28, the PACE Bureau by a majority of voters expressed confidence in the Agramunt and refused permission to carry out visits, to make statements and to conduct other activities on the post of PACE President.

On 2 June, the PACE regulation Committee approved the draft resolution on the possibility of impeachment of the President and Vice-President of the Assembly.

June 27, PACE deprived Agramunt all powers.
