A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of death, especially for people middle-aged and elderly, found canadian researchers. The results of the study were published in the journal Canadian Medical Association Journal, reports gazeta.ru.

The researchers collected data about the way of life 3141 people older than 50 years. Participants ‘ activity was monitored using fitness trackers. Data collection was conducted in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006, the researchers then watched the participants until 2011 or until death.

It was found that the participants who were not recommended by doctors norms in 2.5 hours of moderate physical activity per week, the mortality rate was much higher. Moreover, among those who paid exercise enough time for such a pronounced dependence on the lifestyle was not. The results persisted even after adjusting for bad habits and diseases.

The researchers hope that these data will be used to promote a healthy lifestyle.
