Mobile operator “Kyivstar” can introduce 4G technology in Ukraine, but only if it will operate in the 1800 MHz band, reports the UNIAN with reference to the press service of the company.
The company explained that the timing of the launch and coverage of the territory of new generation of communication will depend on the frequency range.
“If you develop a new technology at frequencies of 1800 MHz, the number of cities of Ukraine can get a 4G connection until the end of 2018. Today, the state offers Telecom operators Ukraine has two ways of introducing the technology of 4G communications in the 2600 MHZ band and 1800 MHz. However, in the first case, operators need to build a new mobile network that will require billions of dollars of investment and take years. At the same time, mobile network of Ukraine are already using special solutions that allow you to develop fourth-generation technology communications at frequencies of 900 and 1800 MHz”, – stated in the message.
In turn, the President of Kyivstar Petro Chernyshov promised to reduce terms of introduction of 4G, if you are fulfilled the above conditions.
“Ukraine needs to overcome the digital divide with other countries: it is necessary to introduce the technological neutrality and to enable operators to launch 4G on the 1800 frequency range. Such initiatives will greatly accelerate this process”, – the press service quoted Chernyshov.
Chief expert on spectral strategy of “Kyivstar” Igor Ereshchenko confirmed that the range of 1800 MHz is the most versatile for the development of 4G technology.
“The world has more than 580 commercial networks 4G connection, of which 272 network on 1800 MHz frequencies. Having the opportunity to develop 4G services on the 1800 MHz frequencies, operators will be able to use other radio frequencies (e.g. 2.6 GHz) to further increase the capacity,” added Ereshchenko.
As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the conditions of competition for the sale of frequencies in the range 2600 MHz and 1800 MHz for the introduction of the fourth generation 4G with an initial value of 6.3 billion UAH.
