“Short and informal meeting will be the first symbolic step in trying to improve relations between the US and Russia. I expect smiles and handshakes, may, promises to work together, but not anymore. Remember the important meetings, which provide important results, is always preceded by preparatory work by the staffs of both parties. There are no signs that such preparatory work was carried out”, – said the “Today” Alexander Motyl.
As for the visit of U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson in Ukraine on 9 July, according to the expert, it is unlikely he will come to demand any concessions from the Ukrainian side. “Tillerson’s visit is symbolically important and may be significant, stresses the importance of the Ukraine for America. I don’t expect he will offer to Ukraine to take specific steps or concessions from the Ukrainian side, since I doubt that the Administration trump knows what he wants from Russia and Ukraine. But the negotiations of a General nature with the key politicians of Ukraine about the war, the search for solutions, the resurrection of Minsk seem more likely,” – said the Professor.
At the same time Alexander Motyl notes that to date, the U.S. Department of State demoralized and apparently is in a state of chaos. “Some blame Tillerson, others trump. The fact that Tillerson is a weak Secretary of state and the tramp plays a leading role in foreign policy. And since trump disorganized, ignorant and unpredictable in foreign policy, this essentially means that the US has no coherent foreign policy”, – concluded the expert.
We will remind, yesterday the Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the first meeting of the tramp with Putin will take place on July 7 in Hamburg in the framework of the G20 summit.
Earlier the presidential Administration of Ukraine has confirmed the visit of U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson in Ukraine on 9 July.
