Today, June 27, at 11:00 against Ukraine was launched a massive cyber attack using a modification under the Ukraine version of the virus “wannacry” – “cryptolocker”. This was stated by people’s Deputy Anton Gerashchenko on his page in Facebook.
According to him, a letter that contains a virus, came in most cases in the mail for a few days or even weeks until today.
“Today we can say that the attack was not less than a month. The letters that came to addressees residing in the Ukraine were in Russian and Ukrainian language”, – said the MP.
Gerashchenko said that the organizers of the attack knew the specifics of the mailing of official letters in Ukrainian commercial and public sector and masked email that contains a virus, disguised as business correspondence, “which out of curiosity opened inexperienced users”.
“In the program code of the virus were laid launch date 27 June at 11:00. The cyber attack, which has as its ultimate goal the attempt to destabilize the situation in the economy and the public consciousness of Ukraine, was disguised as an attempt to extort money from computer owners,” – said the Deputy.
According to him, the virus encrypts the whole hard drive and demands a ransom of several hundred dollars.
“The purpose of this training cyber attacks, most likely timed to the Constitution Day of Ukraine, are the offices of banks, editorial offices of mass media, communication facilities, transport, telecommunications and energy”, – said Gerashchenko.
According to him, at the moment, cyber security specialists, security service and National police are working on key infrastructure objects of Ukraine, to help system administrators as quickly as possible to restore the computer networks.
“I think that for a few days, the work of computer networks will be fully restored,” he reassured Gerashchenko.
The MP noted that every known fact of the contamination computer virus will be initiated criminal proceedings.
“The results of the investigation, the biggest cyberattacks in the history of Ukraine, our cyber security experts will share with their foreign counterparts in order to make our world more secure in the future,” he added.
In addition, Gerashchenko expressed confidence that this cyber attack, “the most ambitious in the history of Ukraine”, – not the last.
“War in cyberspace, who sows fear and terror among millions of personal computer users and causing direct material damage due to destabilization of work of business and government agencies is part of an overall strategy of hybrid war of the Russian Empire against Ukraine”, – said the MP.
