The representative of the President of Ukraine for children’s rights Mykola Kuleba has said that the majority of children who study and live in boarding schools, have parents, reports “UKRINFORM”.
“Today in Ukraine is almost 106 thousand children living in residential institutions, only 8 thousand of these 106 thousand children, having the status of orphans or deprived of parental care. All the other kids have parents. Present, nearly 100 thousand children who have parents today are forced to live in institutions,” – said Kuleba.
According to him, the reasons for such statistics are rooted in outdated state system, where special children, require a more diligent and personal approach, get the “stamp of mental retardation”.
Recall, according to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 2.7 million children in the world live in orphanages, boarding schools and similar institutions.
