Putin against the arts

Yesterday in the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin came to a very unexpected conclusion regarding the alleged embezzlement in the “Gogol-center”, the star of which is an avant-garde film Director Kirill Serebrennikov.

This theater was allegedly embezzled 200 million in subsidies, so on Tuesday, Russian police raided the “Gogol-center” in the apartment of the Director.

Yesterday in the Kremlin took place the ceremony of awarding the representatives of the Russian art. And that’s where he played the somewhat unexpected Intermezzo. Artistic Director of the State theatre of Nations Yevgeny Mironov, who was among the awardees, told President Putin the letter. There’s dozens of representatives of the Russian theatrical and other circles advocate Serebrennikov.

The clink of champagne glasses Mironov approached the President of Russia again, and between them held a short but very hectic dialogue. Let’s remember.

Mironov: “did You know? Knew about this?”

Putin: “Yes, I learned yesterday, as usual from the media.”

Mironov: “Why? Well, why do it?! You’re in France in Monday flying! You it what for?!”

Putin (quite unexpectedly): “Yes, the fools.”

The presidential election campaign

This is the message of the President of the Russian police and authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, which, apparently, are both searched. The underlying reason is quite clear: Kirill Serebrennikov (his statement on the works of a nationalist, but a talented and successful writer Zakhar Prilepin, OMON in Chechnya and the national as well as national Bolsheviks from the party of Eduard Limonov, two years ago gave in Prague theatre “Hibernia”) is an artist-nonconformist.

And because he is a nonconformist, he is suspicious. This time, however, Putin’s lackeys probably went a little overboard, so their high-ranking master struck him a hand through the media.

I very much doubt that theatre Serebrennikov liked person of such class as Putin. But in this case everything is much more serious. In Russia is already underway, the presidential election campaign, although it is a hundred percent unknown whether Putin to participate in it or prefer to create your own modern oprichnina on the model of Ivan the terrible.

But what Putin does not want in any case is negative publicity. This is confirmed once the hype around the so-called program of renovation of Khrushchev (high-rise buildings 50-70th years of construction). As soon as the people began to resent, Mr Putin immediately said that will never sign a law that would be contrary to the interests of ordinary Russians.

In the case of government speech, rather, about the middle class and the intellectuals, that is, the category of citizens, which Putin following protests against him in 2011 and 2012, was written off. Today, apparently, he had the impression that these people might need.
