Poroshenko discussed with Putin the release of Sushchenko

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that in a recent telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the release of the Ukrainian citizens residing in Russia in the hostages, including journalist Roman Sushchenko.

“I believe that this is a true Ukrainian hero. I spoke with his family. My last phone conversation with Vladimir Putin was only the hostages. In particular, we discussed my request for the immediate release Sushchenko from a Russian prison. The consequence of these negotiations was the organization of the meeting of the Novel in prison with his family. I would like to thank Roman for the letter written to me. And I, and all the Ukrainian authorities will do everything to ensure that as soon as possible to return home not only Novel, but also everyone who is illegally in Russian prisons and in prisons in the occupied territory,” – said the President.

Recall, 30 September 2016, the FSB of Russia have detained in Moscow the journalist of UKRINFORM Roman Sushchenko on suspicion of espionage. In the Russian security services believe that Sushchenko is an employee of the Main intelligence Directorate of the defense Ministry of Ukraine. In the Ukrainian intelligence involvement Sushchenko the Agency does not confirm.

The Ukrainian foreign Ministry called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia over the detention of the journalist.
