Elections of the President of France will be a referendum on Europe – EU Commissioner

Presidential elections in France offered a clear choice between two radically opposing views on France and Europe. This was stated by the European Commissioner for economic and financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici, according to Euractiv, reports “Ukrainian truth”.

Moscovici, a French citizen, said he would vote in the second round for the Emmanuel Macron, who won the first round.

This is a rather unusual statement to the senior officials of the EU, which normally do not comment on intermediate results of the election “He will get my vote. I will vote for Emmanuel Macron, for Europe and against the “National front,” said Moscovici.

According to him, the second round will face “two visions of France and Europe” – a vision of tolerance and openness vs closedness and cruelty, laced with xenophobia.

“These elections will be a referendum on Europe,” he said.

Earlier, Moscovici said that the election of marine Le Pen President of France and the withdrawal from the EU will cause a fatal blow to the European project.

We will remind, the leader of movement “Forward!” Emmanuel macron won the first round of presidential elections in France, having gained 23.75% of the votes.

Second place went to the leader of the far-right National front, marine Le Pen, who received 21,53% of the vote. Along with a Macron it goes to the second round, which will take place on 7 may.

The results of opinion polls predict the Macron landslide victory in the second round. He can score more than 60% of the vote.
