The detention of former MP Mykola Martynenko can be seen as a signal from the West to the Ukrainian authorities on the need to accelerate the fight against corruption. This opinion in comments to the website, “Today,” said political analyst Vadim Karasev.
“For two years, as there is a NABOO. First, they need to show the results of their work. Second, they want Happy, finally, appointed the auditor. And thirdly, this soft Hello from the West Ukraine, supposedly give more effective fight against corruption. After all, the case against Martynenko has long, information has long been collected. Then as it turns out, or the IMF will give tranches for reforms (pension, land…), or for the fight against corruption. And another point: given the fact that oversees the NAB, therefore, the West is pushing Ukraine and shows that there is no concessions in the fight against corruption will not. There is no untouchables,” – said the analyst.
At the same time, Vadim Karasev believes that the case against Mykola Martynenko “popular front” could leave the coalition. “What should I do? Elections? First, neither Poroshenko nor Bankova to this (the case against Martynenko – Ed.) irrelevant. I think for him it a slight shock. I think NABOO is acting without a President and all in shock. They see what is possible without the first persons to engage in the fight against corruption. And we are always the first person either initiated or continued the fight against corruption, or used it against their opponents. Yatsenyuk and Poroshenko, on the contrary now is total defense. Second, if NF will pull out of the coalition, then what? And even if NF will create new political projects, that they will be taken to Parliament? If they fall, because barely 5% gain. But one thing, when you have 81 seats, and the other when you have 20 people. I’m not talking about reformatting. Neither Andriy Parubiy at the head of the Parliament will not, nor Arsen Avakov headed the interior Ministry nor Pavel Petrenko, the Ministry of justice…”, – concluded the analyst.
We will remind, last night was detained by representatives of the NAB, former MP from the “popular front” Mykola Martynenko. The head of the Special anti-corruption Prosecutor Nazar Golodnitsky reported that the ex-MP accused of embezzlement of funds of the SE “Eastern mining and processing plant” in the amount of 17.28 million dollars. Specialized anti-corruption Prosecutor’s office during trial regarding Martynenko will insist on his arrest with the possibility of bail of 300 million hryvnia
The detainee stated that the charges against him was fabricated at the direction of the Director of NABU Artem Sytnik for PR purposes and to divert attention from the failures of the Bureau.
Political analyst Vitaly Kulik believes that if the case against Martynenko will continue to spin until may 16, when the Verkhovna Rada will come from unplanned vacation, “the popular front” will threaten with leaving the coalition and can start the flywheel re-election.
The people’s Deputy Nikolay knyazhitsky said that “popular front” will come from the coalition because of the case against Martynenko.
