The EU made a statement on the Crimea

European Union does not recognize and condemns Russia’s annexation of Crimea. It is reported by the Permanent mission of the EU, the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe.

“We do not recognize and condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, which is a violation of international law and is a direct challenge to international security”, – stated in the message.

In addition, the EU welcomes the extension of the mandate of the Special monitoring mission of OSCE in Ukraine and confirmed that the SMM’s mandate covers the whole of Ukraine, including Crimea.

Earlier, acting state Department spokesman mark Toner said that the US does not recognize the results of the “referendum” in Crimea, 2014 year ago and accused the Russian authorities of violating the rights of the residents.

“In Russia organized illegitimate referendum in which the residents of Crimea were forced to vote, and heavily armed foreign forces occupied their lands,” said the spokesman.
