Parubiy commented on the idea of a referendum on NATO membership

The head of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy stated that it supported the initiative of holding referendum on Ukraine’s accession to NATO. He said this during a speech at the morning session of Parliament.

According to him, one of the priorities is the harmonization of legislation of Ukraine and the Alliance.

“Another important question is the approximation of the legislative framework of Ukraine in the sphere of security to the standards of the Alliance. One of the priorities is to harmonize NATO and Ukraine. And I support the initiative regarding the referendum on joining NATO. Ukraine should become an important and integral part of the global security system, ” – said paruby.

Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he intends to hold a referendum on membership in the NATO Alliance. The head of state is willing to make Ukraine’s membership in NATO.

In turn, the Minister of defense Stepan Poltorak said that Ukraine can not stretch the process of bringing the Armed forces up to NATO standards due to the ongoing Russian aggression. At a meeting with British defense Secretary Michael Fallon Minister of defense of Ukraine noted that the reform of the APU depends on reforms in the economy.
