Russia refused to extradite 12 former Berkut officers, as they had received Russian citizenship. About it on air of TV channel “112 Ukraine” said the head of the Department of special investigations of the GPU Sergey Gorbatyuk.
“We’re talking about episode 20 February, in which he is accused of involvement in the executions of 26 Berkut officers, 5 of whom are in custody and place of the hearing. Others wanted. We have sent, given the operational data that they can stay on the territory of the Russian Federation sent requests for their extradition from Russia. Extradition we all sent 21, but today the answer came that 12 persons received the citizenship of the Russian Federation, two of them temporary residence,” – said Gorbatyuk.
He also noted that the former commander of specrate “Berkut” Dmitry Gardener, has been granted Russian citizenship after half a month after he escaped from house arrest in Ukraine.
“What’s interesting is that the commander of this company of the Gardener, who had been illegally released from custody in October 2014, in early December of the same year, became a citizen, that is, a month and a half, man, we have escaped from house arrest has already received. Must have been some kind of simplified procedure, and if to speak about the legislation of the Russian Federation, simplified applies to those who brought some benefit to Russia, the question arises,” – said Gorbatyuk.
The head of the Department of special investigations of the GPU reported that the extradition of the remaining “ex-Berkut officers” response from Russia has yet been received.
Recall that the ex-employees of “Berkut” accused in the shooting death of 39 participants of mass protests on Kiev’s Independence square and Instytutska street on 20 February 2014.
Note, in the March-April 2014 police detained, the court arrested the ex-employees “Berkut” Sergey Zinchenko and Pavel Abroskin and their commander Dmitry Gardener suspected of murders on campus. In September 2014, the Gardener was released by the court under house arrest and in October, the former commander of “Berkut” fled.
