Ethnic Norwegians will become a minority

On Wednesday, the Brochmann Committee published a report on how migration affects the Norwegian welfare system.

According to the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, a member of the Committee of the ASL Toje (Asle Toje), head of the research Department of the Nobel Institute, so do not agree with the Committee that outlined an alternative point of view in his notes to the report.

He notes that ethnic Norwegians will become a minority.

“The starting point of the report is the prediction that ethnic Norwegians will become a minority. The report simply States that migration will decrease, not explaining why or how,” writes Toye.

The waiting for the mass arrival

In an interview with DN, he argues that the Committee has been considerable debate on this topic. He believes that the advent in 2015 of large masses of the asylum seekers could become a new form of normal.

“We live on a planet with a population of 7.5 billion people, and where there are no signs of peace. On the contrary, we will see growth in the number of conflicts,” he continues.

Five different points of view

The report of the Committee Brochmann, published in the framework of the NOU (Public records of Norway), the final part included five notes those members of the Committee who do not agree with the description and recommendations consequences of migration.

The main differences are set out in the Chapter “Integration and trust.” Committee member Cindy Horst (Cindy Horst), head of the research Department of the Norwegian Institute of peace (English: Peace Research Institute Oslo, PRIO), fundamentally disagree, for example, to limit the religious and cultural practices.

The Committee provides directives that can prevent the occurrence of conflicts in schools and workplaces. We can talk about the use of religious headgear, the rules of exemption from classes or the possibility to request to be excused from the famous work assignments.

The ASL Toye considers in his notes the requirements for immigrants to learn Norwegian culture and Norwegian values. This is necessary in order to achieve successful integration, he said.

Toya also believes that Norway should choose the asylum seekers of those countries whose residents can easily integrate into Norwegian society. He cites Canada, which “carefully selects” those migrants who are allowed to enter the country.

The reflection of the contradictions in the public debate

Head of the Committee Professor brochmann, Grete (Grete Brochmann) confirms that the Committee appointed by the present government consisting of the representatives of right-wing party, the Hare and the party of Progress, there is no unity.

In Brochmann Committee that in 2015 introduced the report on migration to the then government, consisting of representatives of the Red party and the Green party, there were only “slight differences”.

“This Committee was then a different mandate and a different composition. The main contradictions that we see in public debates about culture, religion, trust, unity and other issues, and is also reflected in our Committee. That’s the whole mystery of this issue,” says Brockmann in an interview with Aftenposten.

Aftenposten: does the report of the Committee to the fact that not everyone agrees with the recommendations?

Brockmann: I don’t think. It is proof that in society there are political differences. Such differences can contribute to important debates.
