The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that Ukraine is able to ensure its independence, and from the West waiting for support in forcing Russia to implement the Minsk agreements. He stated this in an interview with German newspaper Berliner мorgenрost.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian army is capable to defend Ukraine without military aid from the West.
“We do not expect military assistance. We have our own army and we are unable on their own to fight for our independence,” – said Poroshenko.
The President stressed that European countries need only their unity to confront Russian aggression.
“If you ask me what support I need from the European Union, I have a simple answer: unity. A United Europe under the leadership of France and Germany can force Russia to respect the Minsk agreements”, – said the Ukrainian leader.
He recalled that Russia continues to ignore Minsk agreement on ceasefire in the Donbass and the diversion of arms.
It was also reported that Petro Poroshenko, answering the question of how it relates to the position of President of the United States Donald trump to cancel anti-Russian sanctions, said that most of all wants it, but the conditions must be met.
