The authorities of Barcelona (Spain) can make a law limiting the number of places for tourists in accommodation facilities and prohibiting the construction of new hotels. About it reports The Guardian.
This decision is due to the increasing tourist flow, which causes inconvenience to local residents. According to the publication, last year, the city has a population of 1.6 million people, visited by 32 million tourists.
Public organizations and residents of Barcelona organize a protest, demanding to stop the real estate speculation that leads to higher prices for citizens. They also state that work in the tourist industry are paid too low, the newspaper notes.
