Major international exercises, which will be attended by members of the ten NATO countries and the Swedish military, will be held in Latvia in April. It is reported by the Ministry of defence of Latvia.
Exercises Summer Shield XIV is scheduled from 17 to 30 April. This will be combined the teachings of the ground, the air force, the national guard (Latvian voluntary armed organization, part of the national armed forces) and the joint staff of the National armed forces of Latvia.
It is reported that the exercise involved units of the NATO program “Partnership for peace” – United States, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Sweden.
According to the Ministry, the exercises for improving regional stability and security, strengthen capacity and enhance confidence, improve cooperation between the armed forces of NATO and members of the program “Partnership for peace”, as well as to improve cooperation with the national guard, regular army units and international partners.
It is planned that military exercises will be attended by more than 500 foreign troops.
Recall President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law on approval of the decision on the admission of divisions of armed forces of other States on the territory of Ukraine in 2017 to participate in multinational exercises.
As reported, the legislative initiative submitted by the President, was supported by 236 deputies.
According to the draft law, in the framework of multinational exercises for training units of the armed forces it is proposed to admit the territory of Ukraine for the period up to 365 days up to 3 thousand US troops, other countries-members of NATO and States participating in the program “Partnership for peace” with weapons and military equipment, including up to 6 aircraft and helicopters.
In the framework of the Ukrainian-American exercises “sea breeze – 2017” it is proposed to admit the territory of Ukraine in July – September 2017 for up to 25 days to 2.5 thousand soldiers of the armed forces of the United States, other States members of NATO and States participating in the program “Partnership for peace” with weapons and military equipment, to 10 ships, 5 submarines, 10 aircraft and helicopters, up to 60 units of wheeled vehicles.
In the framework of the Ukrainian-American exercises “Rapid Trident – 2017” it is proposed to admit the territory of Ukraine in June and November 2017 for up to 25 days up to 2 thousand soldiers of the United States, other States members of NATO and States participating in the program “Partnership for peace” with weapons and military equipment, up to 6 aircraft, 10 helicopters.
