In the framework of the official visit to Finland the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with speaker of the Parliament (Parliament) of Finland Maria Aheloy. About it reports a press-service of the President of Ukraine.
The head of state thanked the Parliament of Finland for the strong stance in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The two sides discussed the security situation in the Donbass as a result of Russian aggression. The President expressed gratitude for the consistent support of the Parliament preserve the sanctions regime against Russia.
The head of state drew the attention of the lady of Lkely to gross violation of human rights on temporarily uncontrolled territories of Ukraine, and called on to assist the efforts of Ukraine to release Ukrainian from Russian prisons and captivity in the Donbas.
The President also addressed the Finnish Parliament urging them to take a decision on the recognition of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The President stressed the active work of parliamentary delegations in the parliamentary assemblies of the OSCE and the Council of Europe to support Ukraine’s position.
The head of state stressed Ukraine’s readiness to further develop the active dialogue with Finland, in particular at the parliamentary level.
“I really hope that the recently formed parliamentary inter-faction group of friendship with Ukraine will contribute to strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between our countries”, – said Poroshenko.
We will remind, the President of Ukraine urged the leader of Finland Sauli Niinistö to increase pressure on Russia on the issue of release of prisoners.
Poroshenko thanked Finland for its active participation in special monitoring mission of the OSCE’s human and financial resources, assistance Finland untransparently persons and for the practical support of the process of humanitarian demining in the East of Ukraine.
