The anger of the opposition: Georgia capitulated, despite the assistance of Azerbaijan

Georgian opposition harshly criticized the government over the gas agreements with Gazprom. In the main opposition force Georgian party “United national movement” (UNM) contract with Gazprom called “treacherous” and “capitulation,” write the Georgian media.

According to the Deputy of Parliament from the UNM Sergi Kapanadze, the agreement means the loss of Georgia leverage existing relations with Russia. “The government gives Russia another tool to put pressure on Georgia”, — said the Deputy.

“The conclusion of the contract with Russia on gas transit is a defeatist action, a crime. There is no reason for registration of the agreement”, — said the MP from the UNM, economist Roman Gotsiridze.

“15 years of the agreement on transit acted in the interests of the country, Gazprom failed to change the agreement even in difficult period. Today’s decision means that the government of Georgia is under Russia’s influence. It also means that they have a personal interest. Sooner or later this all will be known,” said Gotsiridze.

According to him, “all the arguments that last year was used by the government to justify concessions to “Gazprom” exhausted.”

“International consortium “Shah Deniz”, has provided Georgia with an additional 500 million cubic meters of gas and gave us the right to conduct through the gas pipeline Baku — Tbilisi — Erzurum. Despite this, the government capitulated,” said the MP, pointing out that during negotiations with Gazprom to Azerbaijan made concessions to the Georgian side and increased gas supplies to Georgia.
