The head of the SBU Vasyl Hrytsak, believes that the introduction of martial law in Eastern Ukraine would help to solve many problems, but it would throw Ukraine back into the Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He told about it in interview to TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
Hrytsak said that the war in the Donbass, de jure called the ATO, although there still are fighting, not complied with the Minsk agreement, the people perish.
“Imagine how we would have been easier to cope with the problems in the East of our country, if to impose a state of emergency, martial law. But in this case, we would have done more than a dozen steps back in our Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as it automatically suggests the introduction of censorship, prohibition of meetings, elections and much more. So this is the biggest challenge. And Russia is acting not only in a combat zone, but all over the territory of Ukraine”, – said the head of the SBU.
We will remind, in the summer there were rumors about the possible introduction of the martial law on Donbass. Advisor to the President of Ukraine Yuri Biryukov said that from the point of view of the military, the military situation will help the Ukrainian army, but it will make major adjustments in civil society with many taboos and restrictions.
In turn, the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov reassured, noting that it is not necessary to fear the imposition of martial law and panic. He stressed that Ukraine should adequately react to danger.
