The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the courage and professionalism of the sailors, shown during the defense of Donbass, became an example of exceptional military prowess.
This is stated in the congratulation of the President on the occasion of Day Military-naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine, published on his website.
The President recalled that the history of the Ukrainian Navy began in 1918, when, on 29 April, was solemnly raised the national flag on ships of the Navy of the Ukrainian people’s Republic. Over this long period of the Navy passed a difficult way of formation and development.
“Relocated in 2014 from the occupied Crimea to Odessa and Nikolaev connections and military units of the naval forces of the newly revived and substantially strengthened the defense capability of Ukraine. Indomitable and invincible fighting spirit, courage and professionalism of the sailors, shown during the defense of Donbass, became an example of exceptional valor and honor,” – said Poroshenko.
According to him, the Ukrainians bow their heads “to the memory of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the peaceful future of Ukraine”.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian people sincerely thank the entire staff of naval forces of Armed forces of Ukraine for their devotion to military duty and military traditions. Separate respect for those who, without losing faith in the Victory, fighting with the enemy on the East of the country, daily risking their lives performing combat tasks at sea and in the air, protecting the South-Eastern border of Ukraine. Prostration mothers, fathers, wives and children of the sailors for the restraint and support of our defenders,” – said the President.
He wished the sailors good health, peace and harmony, family well-being and seven feet under the keel.
