The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumena by Radium and congratulated him on assuming the highest office.
The Ukrainian leader informed his colleague about the escalation of the situation in the Donbass, caused by the constant shelling of Avdiivka by the Russian fighters. Rumen Radev expressed support for Ukraine and agreed with the importance of an immediate cease-fire to restore the infrastructure of the country.
Petro Poroshenko noted the consistent support that Bulgaria supports Ukraine in the protection of territorial integrity and against Russian aggression. He expressed hope that the new Bulgarian President will continue this policy, in particular in the context of preserving EU sanctions against Russia to full restoration of sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
It was agreed on further coordination of actions of the two countries to intensify the process of European integration of Ukraine and strengthening of cooperation with NATO.
The presidents discussed some topical issues of bilateral trade and economic relations and strengthen cooperation in the field of energy security. Discussed the possibility of holding the next meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Bulgarian intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation. The parties also touched upon the issue of further implementation of the project of reconstruction of highway Odessa – Bolgrad – Reni to Bulgaria.
The head of state invited rumen Radeva to make an official visit to Ukraine at any convenient time. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
