Using smartphone applications you can order almost anything, but the funeral — yet. The situation decided to change the Internet entrepreneur Dmitry Garanin who created the service “Died”. With its help, the relatives of the deceased can find out the best prices in your region, as well as to plan the funeral. However, the idea Garanina can to break the Russian reality, because the field of funeral services in Russia is one of the least transparent.
Dmitry Garanin working in top management of the famous Russian company “Yandex”, but “Died” is his private project. “I was thinking, what would our lives it was still possible to automate. And it turned out that there’s only death,” said Garanin during the startup of your project.
Its application is very simple to use. You need to enter the name of the deceased, time of death, the place where you can get the body, and religious affiliation. Then we need to pick out a casket, tombstone and other services. The system will then find the cheapest offer and you will be contacted by the operator.
Garanin assumes that the service will be of great interest. About himself he says he does not like to explain something on the phone, and therefore uses a variety of applications. “Actually, I thought that if I had to solve this problem, I wish something like this existed,” explains a successful Manager.
He wants to earn at camp in the amount of several thousand rubles, with funeral firms. Garanin as told to “Vedomosti”, every day in Moscow kills 500 — 600 people. Even if we manage to attract only one percent, it already earn good money. At the moment he is negotiating with 60 funeral home.
The young Manager refers to the generation of successful IT entrepreneurs who consider technology is virtually omnipotent and like to talk about the capacity of the Economy 4.0. However, in this case Garanin faced by Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Because the field of funeral services, at least since the Brezhnev era, applies to the areas of organized crime. For example, one of the most influential criminal groups in St. Petersburg was associated with the Southern cemetery, and headed its authority named Kostya the Grave. Nothing has changed today. Last year at khovanskoye cemetery in Moscow there was a collision of two competing factions, and dozens of bandits to settle scores directly among the graves to the horror of visitors of the cemetery, which at that time were burying their loved ones.
Nothing surprising. The legal market of funeral services in Russia is estimated in 50 — 60 billion rubles per year (23 to 55 billion kroons). As for the illegal, according to “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”, it is ten times more. Dmitry Garanin admits that he has threatened with death if he did not stop to go into the funeral business. “I think that if we are to cooperate, they will realize that they will have more customers,” suggests Garanin. Anyway it will be interesting to monitor how you will deploy the confrontation of high technology and the criminal market.
