Any action for implementation of Ukraine’s accession to NATO will lead to the deterioration of the security environment in Europe and will harm the peace in the Donbas. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Sputnik Česká republika, Professor at Prague Institute of international and social relations, the political scientist Oskar Krejci, RIA Novosti-Ukraine.
In his opinion, the President of the United States Donald trump and his team is hardly ready to begin the process of Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“Another thing — the distant approaches to it, namely the start of consultations on the compatibility of military systems. Future allies if Ukraine itself will be, is, of course, required. Here comes to the fore in questions of trade. Now the Americans and other NATO countries have accumulated a surplus of outdated weapons. Want to get rid of. It can be right, that is, to “shake off” the Ukraine, or do it through intermediaries. One way or another, but any action on the implementation of Ukraine’s accession to NATO will lead to the deterioration of the security climate in Europe directly harm the solution of the Ukrainian problem, the establishment of peace in the Donbass,” – said Krejci.
He noted that trump will not spoil relations with Russia for support of Ukraine’s joining NATO.
“The new US President has outlined in his inaugural address the priority foreign policy actions. And it is this: the fight against the terrorist group — the so-called “Islamic state”. Trump will need powerful allies, primarily Russia. He hardly wants to worsen relations with Moscow that will inevitably follow, if Kiev will actually start the process of entering the Alliance. My personal opinion is that in the coming years (call it 5-10 years) a political solution for Kiev from USA should not wait. And do not need. The entry of Ukraine would be a giant rollback, a dangerous gap in the system of European security,” – said the expert.
As previously stated the chief of the General staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko, Ukraine’s forces to join NATO in four years. He noted that, according to the decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the army needs to be ready in 2020.
In turn the President of Ukraine said that from 2017 the annual national program of cooperation with the Alliance will focus on reforms to achieve Ukraine NATO standards.
