The President of Finland Sauli Niinistö, condemned the annexation of Crimea to Russia and expressed support of Ukraine’s course for European integration. About this Niinisto said after the meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“We discussed primarily our bilateral relations. We support the Ukrainian integration and its sovereignty. We condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea. Minsk agreements are necessary they should be performed as soon as possible, so we can normalize life in Ukraine – and in principle, throughout Europe. Both sides need to meet the requirements. Finland really wants to help. … We have also heard that Ukraine pursues social, political and economic reforms. We strongly support your government in this way. Finland has always supported the independence and European integration of Ukraine and we will continue to do so.”, – said Niinistö.
He noted that he also discussed with Poroshenko trade relations. “We found out that now is the right time to our trade Commission began to work again. I think we will read it as soon as possible,” said Niinisto .
The presidents also discussed the global development. “I’m not sure that we are very wise in this, because we live in a world that is constantly changing. But I’m sure we both will try to meet all the changes – the changes that will be good, not bad”, – concluded the President of Finland.
Recall, today, Petro Poroshenko arrived in Finland on an official visit. In addition to meeting with Niinistö, Poroshenko will meet with Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the speaker of the Parliament Maria Agelou. Poroshenko will also meet with representatives of the local Ukrainian community and visit the Museum of Marshal Carl Gustav Mannerheim.
