Kiev sends a Memorandum to the court of justice: what Ukraine wants from Russia

This Memorandum describes Ukraine, that it violated the Russian Federation, and give their evidence

Today Ukraine takes the Memorandum as evidence in the international court of justice of the Russian attack on Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait in November 2018. The representative of Ukraine in the international courts Evgeny ENIN told about requirements of the Ukrainian side in this case.

“Our goal is to make the decision of the court of arbitration was clearly stated that the Russian side violated international law of the sea that Russia in the future should refrain from such violations in the Ukrainian warships, that Russia must pay appropriate compensation to the sailors, the Navy and the state of Ukraine”, – he said.

At the same time, ENIN said that the Memorandum Ukraine describes which rules of international law violated by Russia, have the facts to support a legal position, the testimony of witnesses and experts. He also stressed that the text of the Memorandum is confidential, so can not be called Sumy compensation, which intends to Ukraine from Russia.

“I can’t talk about the specific amount of loss that we demand from the Russian Federation. However, we can talk about the structure of the specified damage. The second element is the material and moral damage to our sailors who are illegally held in Russian prison for more than 9.5 months.
