The construction of new runway of the Odessa airport can be solved during a visit in Odessa, Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, scheduled for 8 September. About it in his column on the website of “Commander in chief” wrote political analyst Andrei Zolotarev.
“Since yesterday, the media began to walk the information that the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate money for the construction of a new runway of the Odessa airport. According to experts, the Odessa airport is not able to receive large aircraft including from-for insufficient lengths of runway paintings. So the world’s major airlines are physically unable to establish air communication with Kyiv. At the same time, the arrival of new foreign airlines, including low-cost airlines will create competition between airports in Ukraine and additional tourist flows into and within the country.
“It is strange in this situation is different. As reported, during the presentation of the new Chairman of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov on 12 January 2017, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko drew attention of the head of the region on the need to begin construction of the new runway of the Odessa airport this year.
The construction of the runway of the Odessa airport is being implemented under the Strategic action plan “Smart region”, which was presented by Chairman of the Odessa regional state administration Maxim Stepanov in March 2017, and is one of its key priorities.
Plans to build a new runway of the Odessa airport was first announced back in 2012, when the government of Mykola Azarov promised to build a new runway by 2015. To begin construction of new Vzletka Odessa airport in 2016, also promised the former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili. None of these plans were not implemented.
