Poroshenko signed a law establishing a new state Fund

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed Law of Ukraine No. 2125-VIII “On amendments to the Budget code of Ukraine concerning improvement of the mechanism of financial provision for radioactive waste management”, adopted 11 Jul. About it reports a press-service of the head of state.

So, the law amends the Budget code of Ukraine, which determined the order of formation and use of means of the State Fund of radioactive waste management established within the special Fund of the state budget of Ukraine.

As stated in the explanatory note to the document, the creation of such a Fund will ensure proper use of funds paid to producers of electricity generated by Ukrainian nuclear power plants and to promote appropriate funding for the creation and maintenance of repositories of radioactive waste storage.

The Fund will be formed due to the revenues from the environmental tax levied for formation of radioactive waste (including already accumulated) and/or temporary storage of radioactive waste by their producers in excess of the special conditions of the license period.

The State Fund of radioactive waste management are directed on financial provision of the budget programs, which are design, construction, commissioning, operation, decommissioning or closure of facilities intended for radioactive waste management.

The law shall enter into force on 1 January 2018.

Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the European Bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) have agreed to allocate an additional 40 million euros for the construction of storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.
